13 Ethiopians arrested while being transported to an unknown destination

Emali, Kenya: Police officers in Makueni have arrested 13 foreigners believed to be Ethiopians for being in the country illegally.
They were nabbed at 2.30am on Thursday at Emali town along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway aboard a matatu headed for Nairobi.
Makueni OCPD Joshua ole Leina said police officers at Emali had been tipped that a matatu belonging to NAEKANA SACCO had been car jacked along the Nairobi-Mombasa road.
The carjackers were cornered a few metres from Emali town but three of them escaped on foot even as police officers shot at them. The 13 foreigners, aged between and 26, were found inside the matatu.
Police said it was difficult to establish how they had entered the country because they cannot communicate in either English or Swahili. Leina said this could be a case of human trafficking and cautioned Kenyans against such unlawful acts.
The foreigners have been remanded until Monday as police look for an interpreter to help with communication when they will be arraigned in court.
